ESL Help in the Community

Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks - The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks is the centre of expertise in support of the national standards in English and French for describing, measuring and recognizing second language proficiency of adult immigrants and prospective immigrants for living and working in Canada.

Community Adult Learning & Literacy Society - One on One Volunteer Tutoring: CALLS matches up volunteer tutors with adult learners who want to improve their literacy skills. Free. Contact CALLS for more information or to register.

Community Adult Learning & Literacy Society - English Language Classes: For Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, Temporary Foreign Workers or visitors with visas. This is not a free program. Contact CALLS for more information or to register.

Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC): Free program to help you learn English and integrate into community life and work in Canada. For Permanent Residents.

Language Assessment - There are assessment and referral centres around Alberta. These centres can test your language level using the Canadian Language Benchmarks and some can provide referral information about programs.
