Can't Find It FAQs

  • General Questions

Yes! Your Strathcona County Library card is valid for use at Fort Saskatchewan Library. You can also borrow library materials from Edmonton Public LibrarySt. Albert Public Library or another participating Alberta public library that is convenient for you to visit. To do so, you must register for the ME Libraries service. You must have an email on file with us in order to complete the ME Libraries online registration and use your card at another library.

If you would like to borrow items from participating post-secondary and government libraries, you can sign up for a TAL (The Alberta Library) Card.

You may also use the interlibrary loans service to have materials brought to Strathcona County Library for pick up.

Search our collection in our online catalogue, scl.bibliocommons.com. You may also access this catalogue from the top right of any page of this site. You will find an extensive help section there, as well.

We also offer a collection of online resources, some of which are searchable through the catalogue above. Go to Digital Content to access the the full list of the library's eResources.

  • Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loans (ILL) can take several weeks to arrive. Pick up your interlibrary loan from the holds shelf when notified.

Return an interlibrary loan to any SCL return point, including satellite bins and book drops. Please do not return interlibrary loans to another library system.

First, check that we do not already have the item in our collection by searching the online catalogue.

You can search for and request physical items from other Alberta libraries through Relais (the Alberta interlibrary loan system). All you need is a library card in good standing and your PIN.

We can also place these requests for you; please visit the Information Desk, phone us, or fill out our online form.

Borrowing policies are set by the home library. For example, many do not lend movies, music or other formats.

You may request a maximum of 20 interlibrary loans per month.

  • Purchase Suggestions

If you search for a title, author or series in Libby that returns no results, Libby will automatically do a “deep search” to display relevant titles that are not currently in our collection but are available for us to purchase. You can apply a "Notify Me" smart tag to be notified if we add the title to our collection in the future.

Note: Due to budgetary constraints, adding a "Notify Me" smart tag does not guarantee that we will be able to purchase the title.

Read more about the "Notify Me" tag by visiting the Libby Help website.

We welcome your recommendations for books or other materials to add to the Library's collection. You can begin this process by filling out a Suggest a Purchase form. All suggestions are evaluated according to our Collection Development Policy.

Please check our catalogue before submitting a suggestion to make sure we don't already have the item.
