Visiting the Library FAQs

  • General Questions

    Photos and videos may be taken by library staff or hired photographers for library promotional or educational material, including print, website, and social media. If you would prefer not to have your or your child's picture taken, just let the photographer know. 

    Occasionally members of the public will also hold photography sessions in the library. These must be pre-approved; find more information in this FAQ.

    Strathcona County Facilities maintains all information about public parking at the community centre.

    At our wheelchair-accessible Central Library, you will find the following accessible features:

    • Accessible computer station
    • Prodigi desktop electronic magnifier
    • Portable magnifiers and reading glasses 
    • Slanted bottom shelves

    The library offers library tours and in-school presentations for kindergarten to grade 12 classes and community groups. For details, please visit Presentations for School Age Kids for kindergarten to grade 6 or Presentations for Teens for grades 7 to 12.

    Yes, you may responsibly consume food or drink in the library. We also have an in-house coffee shop, Vicky’s Bistro.

    The library hosts four book sales per year: one each season. For dates and times of our upcoming book sales, see the Program Calendar.

    We also have a regular section of books for sale within the library. These are located by the Teen Zone.

  • Room Reservations

    You can reserve several of our second-floor rooms.

    • Maple room (maximum capacity 15): Available to book for group study, book clubs and meetings during all library opening hours. Drop-in use available when not booked. No individual use.
    • Birch room (maximum capacity 15): Available to book for group study, book clubs and meetings during all library opening hours. Drop-in use available when not booked. No individual use.
    • Pine room: Available to book during all library opening hours. Appropriate for individual use such as for interviews and Zoom meetings. No drop-ins.
    • Study Pod: Available to book during all library opening hours. For individual use (i.e., solo work/study, Zoom meetings, non-proctored exams).

    You can reserve these rooms for the current or next month by contacting our Information Desk in person or at: info@sclibrary.ca or 780-410-8600. We cannot take same-day bookings.

    We allow one reservation per group per month, maximum four hours per booking.

    Rooms cannot be used for commercial purposes.

  • Bookmobile

    Our Bookmobile travels weekly around Strathcona County. Please see the Bookmobile page for its weekly schedule and other activities.

    Yes! Our Bookmobile has a low-floor, accessible design with a ramp.
