Employment Terms
This is a permanent, 28 hours/week, position with benefits. This position involves working a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Rate of Pay: The pay range is $44.32 - $55.39 per hour paid on a bi-weekly basis
Start date: August 17, or a date to be determined in consultation with the successful applicant

Who We Are Looking For

The Youth Services Department is looking for an energetic, motivated and collaborative Youth Librarian to lead our teen services. If you possess strong leadership skills and a vision for delivering innovative library programs and services for teens, we want you on our team!
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Youth Services Manager and working within established guidelines, this position:
- Leads Teen Services: Acts as the team leader for Teen Services, partnering with and supporting the teen Library Service Specialist.
- Develops Programming: coordinates and implements diverse, engaging tween and teen programs based on youth development trends and community needs; evaluates feedback to recommend future program outcomes.
- Builds Community Partnerships: Collaborates with junior and senior high school educators, community agencies, and program sponsors to plan and deliver teen events.
- Delivers Outreach & Education: Conducts library tours, instruction sessions, and presentations on readers’ advisory, research, and information literacy for schools, educations and community groups.
- Manages Digital Content: Coordinates with other library staff to develop content for the library website’s teen section (resources, blogs, book reviews) and manages teen-specific social media.
- Oversees Collections & Spaces: Selects and maintains print and media collections for tweens and teens based on current trends; envisions and maintains the library’s physical Teen Zone.
- Monitors Budgets: Tracks the teen budget and expenditures, providing recommendations for program and equipment purchases.
- Tracks Analytics: Analyzes program feedback, evaluates services, and maintains program statistics.
- Provides Customer Service: Delivers professional research, readers’ advisory, and technical assistance to library patrons of all ages in person, online, and by phone.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited institution
- Minimum of two years related library experience, including demonstrated leadership functions
- Direct experience working with youth and teens
- Training and experience in reference and virtual library services
Required Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Public Library Experience: Professional knowledge of public library principles, philosophies, and procedures, with direct experience in youth and reference services.
- Youth Programming: Proven experience planning and delivering library programs for tweens, teens, and supporting adults.
- Literature & Development: Specialized training in youth/teen literature, a deep understanding of child and youth development theories, and strategies for engaging reluctant readers.
- Digital Literacy: Understanding of, and experience with, teen digital literacy programs is highly desirable.

- Leadership & Collaboration: Strong team leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
- Community Analysis: Ability to gather community input, assess local needs, analyze data and trends, and design responsive services.
- Innovation & Evaluation: Analytical skills to evaluate existing services and propose innovative recommendations.
- Collection & Space Management: Strong collection management skills, including assessing, selecting, and maintaining teen print and media collections.
- Communication & Marketing: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with additional expertise in marketing and promoting library programs.
- Information Fluency: High-level research, readers’ advisory, and information literacy skills, including the ability to develop and evaluate digital website content.
Technical & Licensing Requirements
- Technical Proficiency: Strong technical skills with Integrated Library Systems (ILS), online research resources, MS Office, e-technology, and standard office equipment.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license is required.
Conditions of Employment
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check.
