When the library completed its most recent round of community engagement, we heard from many County residents that they’d like more open hours on Sundays. At the same time, library usage on Friday evenings has dropped significantly. This drop is something that libraries province-wide are experiencing.
In response to those two factors, beginning February 20 we will be closing an hour earlier on Fridays. That means that we'll be open from 9:30 AM until 8 PM on Fridays. And beginning February 22, we will be open from 11 AM until 5 PM on Sundays, which is an additional two hours.
We'd like to thank all of the Strathcona County residents who took part in our community engagement sessions, and we hope that this is concrete evidence of the fact that your voice does matter! A library's services are truly shaped by its surrounding community.
We're anticipating that residents will welcome this news but we're also prepared to hear your concerns. In October 2026, we'll complete an evaluation of all feedback received and analyze the numerical data for weekly in-person visits to the library, to assess the impact of this change.
In the meantime, as we move slowly into spring, we encourage you to take advantage of the longer hours on Sunday. Bring your coffee, relax and take your time in our space!
