Position Title: Acquisitions Specialist in the MMIT Department

Employment Terms

This is a part-time, 21 hours/week, permanent position with benefits. This position involves daytime hours from Monday to Friday. 

Start Date:          The position starts January 12th, 2026

Reports to:         Manager, Materials Management and IT

Salary Range:    $31.06 to $38.82/hour paid on a bi-weekly basis.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Working as part of a team of three:

  • Orders library materials: finds and selects the best vendor for each item based on price, speed and location.
  • Finds new vendors as required.
  • Works with vendors to resolve issues relating to non-receipt of material, short shipments, defective or damaged materials, duplicate shipments, and billing issues.
  • Reviews status reports from vendors and follow up with claims and cancellations.
  • Interacts regularly with library selectors to provide and receive information.
  • Receives library materials: unpacks boxes, reconciles invoices with contents, and enters on Horizon Integrated Library System.
  • Processes library materials: adds labels and RFID tags, stamps items, etc.
  • Adds duplicate copies into Horizon.
  • Works with the team to prioritize tasks to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Maintains monthly statistics.
  • Responsible for a corporate credit card.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and one year related/library experience.
  • Relevant training and/or experience in libraries or the book industry is an asset.
  • Relevant experience with ordering and receiving is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Training

  • Ability to organize work, balance priorities, and meet deadlines independently.
  • Ability to work within a team, and collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of staff.
  • Good communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to track and maintain statistics and inventory of collection supplies.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems, such as Horizon.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, email, Windows, internet and keyboarding.
  • Knowledge of materials management procedures, including processing, ordering, and receiving, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MARC records is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the book industry is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with some heavy lifting (up to 35 lbs) and pushing book carts as well as sitting at a computer station.
