Happy Seniors’ Week! Did you know that though Seniors’ Week is celebrated throughout the province, it began in our very own Strathcona County as a vision by the late Alice Modin? This week, we appreciate and celebrate the contributions of seniors to our communities. Our seniors are storytellers, caregivers, teachers, knowledge keepers, supporters, and main characters! Through sharing time and skill, they work hard to make this community a cherished home for so many and demonstrate that aging is full of life.
Seniors’ Week in Strathcona County will kick off at the agora on Monday, June 5th with an abundance of booths, BBQ, prizes, and presenters all day. The CRA is offering free virtual information sessions all week on being scam smart, seniors benefits, and various tax credits for seniors.
Continue celebrating on Tuesday at South Cooking Lake Community Hall for more food, games, and activities.
Spend Thursday learning the history of our great community during a free guided tour at the Strathcona County Museum & Archives, then share your memories through storytelling led by the library’s writer in residence.
Wind up your Seniors’ Week on Friday by exploring a new exhibit in Gallery@501 and enjoying memory exercises and board games at the library! Check out the WESeniors website to learn more about events and programs during Seniors’ week.
Check out these audiobooks for more stories about how seniors can be the life of the party!
We are highlighting Senior's Week with this list of audiobook titles that celebrate aging and loving ourselves in all stages of life. This list includes memoirs and inspirational accounts, as well as some information titles on the science of aging, exploring the joys of growing older and lifelong learning.
