Get to Know Your Library Staff: Taryn

What is your job title?

Teen Librarian

When did you start working at the library?

August 2008

How would you describe your role at the library?

I oversee collections, services, and programs for grades 7–12.

What do you like best about your job?

I still feel so lucky that I get paid to read book reviews and select books for the teen collection; it’s a dream! I also love book-talking and getting teens excited about reading. However, my favorite thing about my job is getting to connect and build relationships with teens and patrons of all ages.

What do you wish people knew about the library?

We have a settlement practitioner who is in the library a few days a week to help newcomers to Canada. She is incredibly kind and passionate and can help with a variety of things from setting up bank accounts to finding a place to live.

Which books or resources in the library do you find most interesting?

Solaro is an incredible resource for grades 3–12 that offers 24/7 homework help and practice tests in all of the core subjects. It is based directly on the Alberta curriculum.

Tell us about one book/movie/album/magazine that you really love.

I absolutely love The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante.

When you're not reading or working you're...

Hanging out with my sweet family or following Pearl Jam.
