What is your job title?
Graphic Designer
How long have you worked at Strathcona County Library?
Almost 13 years
How would you describe your role at the library?
My role here is to visually communicate library information in print and digital formats to inform the public about upcoming programs and services. Projects include the program guide, posters, logos, digital slides, ads, swag and more. Direction from coworkers usually goes something like this…“make it look good”!
What do you like best about your job?
What I like best is the variety of different projects I get to work on. It’s inspiring when I get tasked to completely redesign and modernize visuals that are outdated.
What do you wish people knew about the library?
People I talk to are still surprised to know we have all the latest movies and books. You don’t have to spend your own money. Even library cards are now free!
Which books or resources in the library do you find most interesting?
I find the programs the library puts on endlessly fascinating. There’s movies, author talks, art projects, writers groups, escape rooms, informational programs-the library is not just about reading books anymore.
Tell us about one book that you really love.
A book I recently reread, because I loved it so much the first time is, The First Bad Man by Miranda July. It was just as good, if not better, the second time around.
When you're not reading you're...
Playing tennis, being outside, listening to music, hanging out with my kids.
Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?
My mom was a librarian and then teacher when I was growing up so my love of books started young. I find it funny that I chose graphic design as a profession but ended up working in a library! Win-win for me.
